About This Spot

Stepping into El Cerrito feels like settling into a familiar neighborhood corner where the pace softens just enough to savor simple moments. The air carries a comforting warmth, blending the lively hum of friendly chatter with the subtle sizzle and aromas drifting from the kitchen. It’s the kind of place where time slows down just enough to appreciate not only what’s on your plate but the stories shared across the table.

Here, the atmosphere is inviting without fuss—bright, yet cozy, with a warmth that beckons friends and families alike to linger over fresh, flavorful dishes rooted deep in Mexican and Latin traditions. Whether you’re drawn by the promise of tender, richly seasoned seafood tacos or the satisfying generosity of a burrito wrapped with care, each bite feels connected to a wider story of authentic flavors and careful preparation. You might find yourself reaching for an ice-cold horchata or a tangy hibiscus drink, their cool sweetness a gentle counterpoint to the subtle heat and deep savory notes of the menu.

What truly shapes the experience is the welcoming spirit of the team and the unpretentious joy of sharing great food in good company. Portions are hearty, never rushed, encouraging conversations to flow as freely as the food arrives. It’s clear that El Cerrito is a place valued not just for its menu but for its ability to create a space where people gather, reconnect, and discover the layers of flavor—both on the plate and in the atmosphere—that make returning here feel natural.

Great place to get Mexican Food, generous portions. Delicious food at a good price. The service was outstanding. We enjoyed the beef burrito and tropical chicken salad. The horchata and hibiscus drinks were perfect with our meals. I highly recommend if you are looking for great service and great food.

It's quite hard to find a proper Mexican place nearby. Me and my wife loves the fish taco and camarones a la diabla (deviled shrimp). If I visit Stanford again, this is the first place I want to have a lunch. Personal best.

Overall pretty solid, we ordered the Aztecs and it was filling. We added chicken to the quesadilla and it was seasoned so well. Definitely want to come back, this fed two people and we were both full

I ate here with my childhood best friend over the holidays. I am an avid Mexican food lover, both as a consumer and in the kitchen. I've eaten Mexican restaurant across the U.S. and Mexico, and without hyperbole, this seafood shrimp plate (Camarones Veracruz) was probably the best seafood dish I've had, which to be honest I was not expecting. The shrimp was fresh and perfectly cooked - so tender yet firm. The sauce, probably made from some concoction of Guajillo chiles, chipotle, tomatoes, onions, and garlic, was also perfect. The enchilada was wonderful as well. Everything about thie plate was perfection. I had a nice Jarritos Tamarindo to go alongside the meal as well. The service was very friendly. I would give this establishment 10 stars if I could. If I didn't live in Iceland, I would eat here at least twice a week.

Lovely spot next to Safeway, but don’t trust Apple Maps because they’ll take you to CVS! The food here was so good with great portion size. Got the super burrito with carne asada. The meat was so flavorful and crisped up nicely. Definitely gets busy!
